Training & Troubleshooting Tank Farm Fuel Lines

Training & Troubleshooting Tank Farm Fuel Lines

PROBLEM

USI’s AMPP Coating Inspector was called on site to help train, troubleshoot, and problem solve with a contractor.

The final goal was to have the jet fuel lines coated with a corrosion resistant coating to provide the owner with a long-term underground solution.

SOLUTION

This tank farm had airport jet fuel lines that were coated with multiple types of coatings from white atmospheric paint, to PVC or utility tape, to a mastic coating, and a yellow hard plastic coating.

The first challenge was figuring out how to remove each of the different coatings from the pipelines.

The next challenge was the various sizes of pipe and different ways to coat them. The pipes ranged from 4 inches in diameter all the way up to 36 inches in diameter.

After using the different methods of removal, the contractor abrasive blasted the lines and used the Denso Protal 7200 Spray Grade 1,000ml Cartridges

on the larger diameter pipes. The smaller diameter pipe needed to be brushed or rolled on with the Denso Protal 7200 Brush Grade 1L Kits.

USI’s AMMP Coating Inspector is also a Certified Denso Trainer that was able to provide training on both spray grade and brush grade systems.
