USI Groups is proud to be a WBENC-certified business and works diligently to do our part to promote women with new careers and learning opportunities across the construction and trades industries.
Over the last five years, the number of women-owned companies in the construction industry increased by 68%, with a 31% increase in revenue growth since 2014.
For Tiffany Klingensmith, President and one of the owners of Unconventional Solutions Inc., being a women-owned business enterprise in the trades industry was a dream that officially actualized in 2005 — but her journey began well before.
Prior to coming on board to USI Groups full-time, Tiffany played an integral part in founding Unconventional Solutions, Inc. as far back as January of 2003. During those early stages, she helped Doug Klingensmith with building the organization’s brand, as well as handling paperwork, invoicing, plus packing and shipping orders around her full-time career.
Today, the USI Groups’ President wears a lot of hats. Since receiving her AMPP-Certified Level 2 Coating Inspector certification in 2016, Tiffany has been able to leverage her scientific background in order to help clients repair, protect, and upgrade their most valuable equipment and critical infrastructure with a variety of composite repairs, protective coatings, paints, and corrosions inhibitor solutions.
In 2017, she became a DENSO-certified trainer and now instructs pipeline owners, inspectors, and contractors how to properly apply pipeline coatings all across the United States. Tiffany is also very involved with the Great Lakes Women Business Council and is passionate about giving back to her community through mentorship opportunities as well as serving as the Chair for the Southeast Michigan WBE Forums. In 2022, she was awarded the WBE of the Year for the Great Lakes Business Council, an honor that recognizes and celebrates women business enterprises that have demonstrated remarkable resilience and excellence throughout the years.
In addition to this accolade, USI Groups also holds the following certifications and designations:
As the gold standard for women-owned businesses in the United States, the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council’s (WBENC) Certification validates that a business is at least 51% owned, controlled, operated, and managed by women. In order to receive certification, business owners are required to undergo a thorough vetting process — but the rewards are well worth the effort.
WBENC-certified organizations will gain access to supplier diversity and procurement executives across hundreds of major corporations and government entities. This includes access to new opportunities, networking, education, mentoring, and additional business tools and resources.
This certification also promotes both financial and operational excellence and demonstrates that the business can meet a variety of requirements such as:
