The Problem
A city wastewater plant in Michigan needed to protect their pipe before the wall thickness became too thin and they were forced ton replace. This would have been extremely challenging and would have been $100,000’s+ to remove the old pipe and install a new pipe.
The Substrate
Metal
The Solution
Unconventional Solutions came in and trained the wastewater employees on how to make a fiberglass pipe around a pipe. The project only required roughly $ 20,000 in materials to repair and upgrade the piping for an additional 10+ years of service and potentially longer.
Surface preparation was completed with a solvent cleaner and wire brush to remove all existing loose rust and coating. Resimac 302 Epoxy Repair Cement was used as a surface tolerant. Then Resimac 703 Glass Tape was used with Resimac 301 Epoxy Resin which produced a high strength composite repair.
One year later the client was very happy with the results and has fixed additional pipes since.
