Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) is a composite pipe material which uses concrete and high strength steel used primarily in the water industry for large diameter, high pressure water transmission pipes. Due to its materials of construction, the use of cathodic protection to mitigate corrosion on PCCP as well as interference situations is severely limited. Protection of PCCP with CP is covered by NACE International SP0100-2019, Cathodic Protection to Control External Corrosion of Concrete Pressure Pipelines and Mortar-Coated Steel Pipelines for Water or Waste Water Service. Interference from neighboring CP systems needs to be assessed, monitored and managed from installation and operation. In this presentation, the limitations are discussed and explained along with case studies.
