How to Repair a Concrete Ceiling with Resimac Resichem 571

Repairing a concrete ceiling can be a challenging task, but with Resimac Resichem 571 Concrete Repair LW, a lightweight epoxy repair mortar, the process becomes manageable and efficient. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use Resimac Resichem 571 for repairing concrete ceilings:

Surface Preparation:

  1. Clean the Surface: Ensure the concrete ceiling is free of dust, loose materials, and contaminants. Use compressed air to remove debris from cracks or pitting and vacuum to ensure the area is dust-free.
  2. Prepare Coated Concrete: If the surface is coated, scarify it to remove existing coatings for better bonding. Clean the surface with a handheld mechanical grinder and vacuum thoroughly.
  3. Address Contaminated Concrete: Clean any superficial contamination with a grinder and vacuum. For deeper contamination, use enzymes to remove oils/chemicals from the substrate.

Mixing & Application – Primer:

  1. Temperature Check: Ensure material components and the environment are between 15-25°C (60-77°F). The surface temperature should be above 10°C (50°F) and at least 3°C (6°F) above the dew point.
  2. Mixing the Primer: Combine the primer activator with the primer base and mix until streak-free. The usable life is 20 minutes at 20°C (68°F).
  3. Applying Primer: Use a brush or roller to apply the primer, ensuring it penetrates small cracks and uneven surfaces. Allow curing for a minimum of 2 hours at 20°C (68°F).

Mixing & Application – Repair Mortar:

  1. Mixing Mortar: Ensure the same temperature conditions as the primer. Pour the aggregate activator into the unit with the aggregate and mix until streak-free. The usable life of Resichem 571 Concrete LW is 60 minutes at 20°C (68°F).
  2. Applying Mortar: Apply the mixed material to the primed repair surface using a trowel. It can be applied in layers of 5-10mm or in a single coat up to 50mm (2 inches) without sagging.
  3. Curing: Allow the repair area to cure for a minimum of 8 hours at 20°C (68°F).

Coverage Rates:

  • The coverage rate of Resichem 571 varies based on thickness. For instance, a 2.5kg pack can cover 0.5m² at a 5mm thickness.

Cure Times:

  • The primer has a usable life of 20 minutes and should be touch dry in 2 hours. The mortar has a usable life of 60 minutes, touch dries in 8 hours, and fully cures in 3 days.

Safety Measures:

  • Always wear protective gloves, goggles, and a disposable coverall during the application. Read the Safety Data Sheet thoroughly before beginning the work.

By following these steps, you can effectively repair a concrete ceiling using Resimac Resichem 571, ensuring a durable and long-lasting fix.
