Emergency Pipe Leak Repair

Emergency Pipe Leak Repair

The Problem

This 48in. suction piping for the return sludge pumps at a wastewater treatment plant had sprung this large leak and several smaller leaks.

Luckily for the client, USI had an Emergency Repair Kit in stock, along with extra RESIMETAL 101 Metal Repair Paste and RESIMETAL 202 Ceramic Repair Fluid.

The Solution

Once the fluid source was cut off for pressure, the pipe surface was manually cleaned to an SSPC-SP10 finish. A form was manufactured to cover the leak area, and RESIMETAL 106 XF Metal Repair was used to fix it in place.

A reinforcing strap was used for added security, and 125 mils of RESIMETAL 101 Metal Repair Paste was applied. Reinforcing mesh was embedded into the product followed by 125 mils of RESIMETAL 101 Metal Repair Paste.

A 30-mil topcoat of RESIMETAL 202 Ceramic Repair Fluid was applied to protect the pipe against future impact and chemical damage.

This repair lasted 3.5 years. It never failed but the client received federal grant money to replace the pipe.
