Recently I used Resimetal 101 to repair a shaft on one of our critical fans. It was in a hot location, and I didn’t want to send the shaft out for repair. The repair was easy mixing and spreading, but time was limited by the heat curing it. Sanding was a breeze to get it down to the size we needed and I had the fan back up and running in about 8 hrs.

Unconventional Solutions and 3M Corrosion Protection Products did a fabulous job of giving 110% to repair a heat exchanger I had at Detroit Thermal back in March 2006. Their technical expertise was outstanding and their products are second to none. That repair is still in service today. USI saved Detroit Thermal over $100,000 in replacement cost. I would recommend them to everybody and anyone looking for lower life cycle cost.

We recently opened the new Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Saline, Michigan. As part of the project we had to make a decision on what to do with a badly laid and torn vinyl floor. After much consideration we elected a USI High Build Epoxy floor. We took bid from a number of suppliers and decided to go with Unconventional Floors. This decision was not made on price alone, but rather on the professionalism and expertise that had been exhibited to us. To make a long story short, we could not have made a better choice/decision.
It has been about two years and the flooring has exceeded our expectations. The color has remained true, texture/finish has not exhibited any wearing and there has been no problem with maintenance/cleaning. Our floors look great and our experience was one of the best with a contractor. If you are having your floors done I strongly recommend Unconventional Solutions. You will not be disappointed.

Our team was responding to an unscheduled repair. The time frame took place into the evening; with us having questions in regards to a protective product for pipe (this was a product that USI does not even supply).
Not only did Jason respond immediately and take calls at 11:30 in the evening. The USI team found the answers to our questions for a product they don’t even supply. This helped keep our boots on the ground team moving well. This type of effort, is not a one off event, rather the norm for USI. USI has a continued track record for assisting and doing the best they can to support in countless aspects.
I have always been impressed with the punctuality, professionalism and responsiveness of the USI team. Of course the USI group has supplied our coating needs, and training without issue. However in the above most recent experience. The supply of service from the USI team continues to go above and beyond what most anyone would expect. What I like most about working with Unconventional Solutions is their dependability. For our men out in the field, it is imperative that product is received in a timely manner to ensure the job is completed on time. Unconventional Solutions will go above and beyond to ensure that our men have what they need and when they need it. When USI does not have the product available, they will go out of their way to find out what they can about the product and possibly provide it in the future.
I also really enjoy how the sales reps call in to check in on things to make sure we are taken care of. They do a great job of building relationships with their clients. Bobby Clemens has especially done a great job with keeping tabs on us and being enthusiastic about helping our company succeed.

USI has been extremely helpful to us and an absolute pleasure with which to work. Whenever we need material, they make sure we get what we want, when we want it. Period. And it is usually in stock at their facility, especially the Densotherm Tape we use on a regular basis. Even during COVID, when material was much more difficult to come by, they were able to work through those issues and keep us stocked with product. I know other people who were not that lucky as they were reaching out to us to try and buy coating materials from us!
Their knowledge of the various products has proven very helpful as well. They have provided on-site training for the various contractors to ensure the application of the various products is done correctly. Recently, there was a slight change in one of the products which caused some concerns on our end. They came out immediately and worked with the contractor to remedy the situation (We found out we were overheating the tape slightly causing the ‘jeeps’.). That level of service is much appreciated.
Another example of the product knowledge is when we had a unique problem in a refinery, where we had to remove an old pipe support which was causing corrosion concerns, then repair the pipe, install an FRP & new support, and then re-coat the repair. And this was in the middle of winter, in Detroit. They were able to recommend and provide various options to fill the corrosion pits, bond the FRP, and coat the pipe, all of which were able to be applied in the extreme cold ambient conditions and meet the strict refinery work restrictions. We could not have been happier with how things turned out.
The service that you provide has been very much appreciated; a lot of companies claim to have “great customer service” – you actually do provide that. And everyone that I have dealt with is always friendly and a pleasure to talk to. Our work at times can get hectic and stressful, but I like to think that we still have fun and minimize any drama to reach the end goal. USI has been very helpful to us to achieve that goal.
